At the 2014 Monterey County Fair, many fair visitors dropped by the Water Conservation Showcase, hosted by the Water Awareness Committee, to learn about water conservation.
California Water Service Company, California American Water Company, Marina Coast Water District, City of Soledad, City of Greenfield and MCSI-Water Management answered questions on water conservation and provided free water conservation devices.
Visitors learned about low water-use landscapes and efficient irrigation. Conservation information on home water fixtures was provided to help us to reduce water, cut our water bills and protect the environment.
A full-size storm water demonstration model was erected by AquaSoleil, local installer Seaside Garden Center. The model applied water to the roof to allow you to see the water go from the roof, into storage, and then out to the plants. An informative artificial turf display was provided by Global Syn-Turf which included a wide variety of artificial grass.
Beautiful drought tolerant landscapes were constructed by Return of the Natives, the Water Awareness Committee, Marina Coast Water District and Monterey Peninsula Water Management District. These displays provided examples of attractive low-water use landscape that grow well locally. A drip irrigation demonstration illustrated this conserving irrigation technique.
A wide variety of the beautiful plants on display were raffled off to fair goers thanks to Seaside Garden Center as was a rain barrel system thanks to Noland, Hammerly, Etienne, and Hoss.
Thanks to all who attended the Showcase, and to those who donated time and provided material support. You all participated in a great effort to help our community.
